一世風靡したZephyr Productionsを設立し現在はSanta Monica Airlines Skate Companyを主宰。彼がサポートしていたZ-Boys（The Zephyr Skate Team）にはトニーアルバ、ジェイアダム、ステイシーペラルタ等がいる。
また彼らを描いたムービー「LORDS OF DOGTOWN」がある。

I first went to Japan in 1968 and the people were very kind to me.Since that time I have been lucky to have made many friends over there and was happy to find out all my friends were safe.yet we as people must remember those that were lost friends or not.We can only hope they move higher on the great wheel this next time

I know the hardship still continues to this day.
I wish I could go right now to offer my support if I could.

Nobody can measure what we have lost in this tragedy.
But I wish you live to its fullest for the ones who lost their lives.

We will work hard to be able to keep sending everything we can.

今回の大震災で亡くられた方、被災された方々に、
どんな言葉をかけてよいのかわかりません、、
あまりに大きな悲しみに、
言葉を探す事さえ無意味に思える気がします。

僕は数年前からサーフィンを始めた、ビギナーサーファーです。
たくさんの元気を、海から貰っています。
大好きな海が、今回はその姿を変え、
膨大な命と生活を奪ってしまったことは、
本当に残念でなりません。

僕の近くの海では、徐々に海に入るサーファーもいます。
サーフィンの自粛を続けているサーファーもいます。
どちらも正しいのだと、僕は思います。
サーファーの数だけ、海に対する考え方があるし、
なによりも個々のライフスタイルは尊重されなければなりません。

僕も自分の気持ちが落ち着いたら、
すぐにでも海に入りたいと思っています。
しかし、ゴールが見えません。
今回の大震災で被災された方々に、
自分自身がどう向き合うのか、
その答えも見えません。
ただ、その答えとゴールは同じものの様な気がします。

肉親を亡くされた方が、『海なんてなければいいのに』、
と泣き崩れる姿をニュースで見ました。
当然の感情だと思います。
僕もそう思うと思います。

海は僕に、いつも無償で、いろんなものを与えてくれました。
辛い時、悲しい時、たくさんの元気や喜びを与えてくれました。
それらはいつもFreeでした。
タダで、無料で、たくさんの恩恵を貰ってきました。

これからはお金を払おうと思います。
海に入る度に、その日の入海料を自分で決め、
海から上がったら、募金箱に向かおうと思います。

思った以上に、海辺にはたくさんの募金箱がありました。
コンビニには必ずありますし、ショップにも駐車場にもあるでしょう。
そして募金ポイントは、確実に増えていくでしょう。

すでにたくさんのローカルサーファーの方々が、支援に奔走されてい 
ます。
被災された東北関東のサーファーを、言葉だけでなく、
家族のように必死で救おうとされています。
そして、なによりも被災された方々ご自身達が、頑張ってらっしゃい 
ます。

僕のようなビジターサーファーは、
これからも海を愛し続けるためにも、
今こそ何かを始めるべきなのかもしれません。
少しでもいいから、長期的に続けられる何かを。

このメッセージが、被災された方々や、それを支援される方々の心情 
を、
害する事がないことを願ってやみません。

I cannot find words to say for all the people that were affected by this massive earthquake. 
Overwhelming sadness caused by this tragedy makes it seem like it's worthless to describe how I feel in words.

I'm a begginer surfer who just started surfing couple years ago.
Yet the ocean has given me much joy and happiness.
It really is a shame that this ocean, which I love dearly, took lives of many people.

Some surfers returns to paddle, some decides stay out.
Who is to say which is right.
There are equal numbers of opinion as there are surfers, and each lifestyles must be respected.

I would like to go surf as soon as I'm able to clear my thoughts, but I am lost in them.
I do not even know how I should act towards all victims of this tragic. 
Though, I have the feeling the answer to my thoughts and my action would have the same meaning somehow.

I saw some one who lost a family member saying, "I wish the ocean didn't existed."
It is completely understable. 
I would probably feel the same way.

Ocean has given me much joy.
When I'm sad, and down, it's always there to cheer me up.
It expects nothing in return, gives out all the happiness for free.

But I'll start paying from now on.
I will set an amount each time, and head to the donation box every time I surf.

Donation boxes are everywhere, more than I expected.
At convenience store, surf shop, beach parking... And it'll grow in numbers for sure.

Many surfers are contributing already.
Many are trying to help those surfers in impacted area as their family.
Most importantly, those victims themslves are trying their hardest to make thing work.

Perhaps there is no better time than now for us "visitor surfers" to start something in order to continuingly love, and appreciate our ocean.
Something we can keep doing in the future.

I sincerely hope that this message works as an encouragement, not a discoragement, to all victims, and to all suppportors.
