親愛なるＴへ
ようやくお前と話すことができた。
携帯電話の向こうの声は、
さすがに疲れているようだけど、
いつも通りで、少しほっとした。
無事でよかったな、大丈夫？
そんなお前に、こんな月並みの言葉しか
口にできない自分がもどかしかった。
お前が言葉にする
東北の惨状は、テレビの画面の世界よりも、
リアルだった。
今日から、避難所を後にして、
奥さんと生まれてまもない子供と一緒に、
暮らしていくと言う。
家が残っただけでも、
ラッキーだと笑うけれど、
水もなく、糧もなく、
津波の爪跡が残された土地で生きていくのは、
並たいていのことではないだろう。
言葉に詰まる自分に、
お前の力強い笑い声が響く。
電話を切ってから、思った。
また、お前と一緒にサーフィンをしたい。
緑濃い松林に囲まれた、
穏やかな浜辺で、みんなと笑いながら…。
あの“夏の日”は、またやってくる。
その日を信じて、
僕は、お前と仲間とともに、生きようと思う。

My dearest T,
Finally, I was able to get a hold of you.
Although you sounded tired, I was so relieved to hear your usual tone.
It's a shame all I could say to you was "are you ok? I'm glad you survived."
The description you gave me of the impacted area was much more real and devastating than any other images from a media.
You said you'll leave the camp and start a life with your wife and your new born child.
You laugh saying that you're lucky to have your house escaped from tsunami, but with no food or water, I know the hardship you'll have to go through is something unimaginable.
I choked with words, and all I could hear was your laud laugh.
"let's surf together again"
That was my thought after hanging up with you.
At the mellow beach surrounded by the trees, everybody smiling....
I believe "that summer day" will come again. I'd like to live with you and our friends until that day comes."
